Description

Contemplating Paradise

Inspired by Milton's Paradise Lost, our site is a processional journey moving from earth towards the underworld with paradise gleaming in the distance. Nearly ail beliefs concur with the idea that paradise resides in the sky above. Our humanity keeps us grounded. It is only after we pass through this world and into the next that we are able to reach the heavens. Our garden encompasses this path; the search for paradise.

Upon arrival, visitors begin a journey downward through woodland and into 'the earth a fabric huge rose, like an exhalation.' Visitors must continue their descent into this earth place of darkness. Once underground, visitors will see a light piercing the vessel, symbol¬izing paradise. Six steps lead toward the light but the seventh step can't be reached in human form. It con only be obtained through the spirit. The presence of paradise is felt, but it is physically unattainable.
