Lifting Up Accessibility
Based on the design of a ski lift, this outdoor elevator system recalls the outdoor sport that was popular on the Outremont summit between the years 1940 and 1970. The ski lift vestiges can still be seen today, just a few meters from the current CEPSUM stadium.
The outdoor elevator system ensures undifferentiated access to the reception area, while providing users with easier access and enhanced experiential mobility upon entering the CEPSUM sports complex; the system is in the left-hand corner upon entering the front doors of the building, rather than at the end of the long hallway under the stairs. The ski lift elevator system is open to all.
A glass tunnel encases the system, thus ensuring the passengers optimal conditions all year round and in all forms of weather. The design of the tunnel structure is reminiscent of a toboggan slope. The color and form of the glass tunnel structure maintain a harmony between the original design of the building from the 1970s, and the new, while showcasing a bold new addition to the front and side of the building's entrance.
This proposal seeks to reinvent design by promoting equitable use, while remembering winter sports and offering added functional and esthetic values to the CEPSUM sports center.

The proposal offers a high level of innovation, but lacks spatial and experiential qualities.
