Together to the Sports Center: A Route for Everyone
After analysing the entranceway and searching for potential areas for intervention, the spot selected to kickstart the project was around the main stairs leading to the CEPSUM building. Apart from not being accessible for people with disabilities, it was deemed way too narrow and unimpressive for an entrance of such an important sports center. Therefore, the project aimed to transform not only the stairs but also its surroundings into a more welcoming and inclusive environment.
In order to achieve this goal, a colorful pathway was designed starting from the Édouard-Montpetit Metro Station leading to the CEPSUM entrance. This pathway was intended to present a clear and inviting way for visitors to head towards the sports center while also being paved with tactile tiles and having no unevenness (even during street crossings, which were leveled to match the sidewalk) to ensure a safe walk for all.
When arriving at the CEPSUM, the visitors are greeted with a broad staircase and an ample ramp, which circles around an open area equipped with a small all-purpose sport field, surrounded by a panel featuring some of the activities offered by the CEPSUM and references to its past as an Olympics' host.
It was also considered that an inclusive entrance for the CEPSUM should offer not only a clear pathway but also areas for resting. As such, a portion of the parking lot was taken to create a third place between the building and the street to be enjoyed by users of the sports center and passersby alike. This breathing space is connected both to the street and the CEPSUM by ramps, which provide an additional route for entering the building.

The use of wheelchair symbol does not correspond to the idea of invisible accessibility. The interior walkway lacks development and thoughtfulness.
