Embracing the Landscape
The project aims to create a sensitive, accessible transition space that integrates seamlessly with the landscape. The organically shaped ramp, topped with a green roof, offers not only an inclusive path but also a sensory and contemplative experience of the surroundings.
The wooden structure, made from a natural and renewable material, strengthens the connection with the ground and vegetation, providing warmth, lightness, and sustainability. The green roof extends the landscape, contributing to thermal comfort and natural drainage.
Beyond merely meeting accessibility standards, the project embraces universal access as a fundamental architectural right. The ramp itself becomes a meaningful space -- inviting people of all ages, bodies, and conditions to move, dwell, and connect with the site in an inclusive and engaging way.
This proposal presents architecture as a welcoming gesture. The curved "S"-shaped ramp symbolizes an embrace, inviting people to move smoothly between levels. It is more than a path; it creates a sense of belonging and shared experience.
Universal accessibility is viewed as a fundamental right, ensuring inclusive, intuitive use for all ages and abilities.
Using natural materials like wood adds warmth and connection to the site, while the green roof integrates the structure into the landscape, promoting comfort and sustainability. The ramp becomes a meaningful space for movement, pause, and encounter.
A central feature of the proposal is a robust wooden column that supports the ramp through three inclined beams, forming a structure reminiscent of a tree branching out. This element provides stability and acts as a symbolic landmark, reinforcing the organic identity of the project.
The use of wood, a natural and renewable material, along with a green roof, emphasizes environmental sensitivity. The green roof supports thermal comfort and natural drainage, blending architecture into the landscape and turning circulation into a sensory, meaningful spatial experience.
(From competitor's text)
The ramp's configuration is problematic, as it lacks a proper landing and features a curve that presents significant challenges for wheelchair users to manoeuvre safely and comfortably. On the positive side, the proposal takes into account other disabilities, in particular "environmental sensitivity".
