FLOW TOGETHER
The CEPSUM is located on a steeply sloping site, where access is fragmented: the adapted routes are separate, discreet and not very visible, reinforcing what is perceived as secondary accessibility. Inside, vertical circulation is not very clear, and the reception desk does not cater to the diversity of users. This setting raises issues of inclusion, orientation and experience, at odds with the mission of an open, welcoming and equitable university sports center.
The proposal transforms the functional route into a playful, active, sensory and biophilic sequence, promoting wellbeing, inclusion and the pleasure of movement from the moment you arrive on site. Rather than a simple utilitarian itinerary, the entrance becomes a place for shared experiences, designed to stimulate play, physical activity and exploration of the senses. The use of textures, colors and natural landmarks guides users intuitively and fluidly from the public space to the reception desk.
The arrival area up to the main entrance has been redesigned as a landscaped ramp-promenade and structured into several levels. The active platform offers accessible workout modules, the playful platform offers motor and cognitive games for all ages, and the sensory platform awakens the senses with tricking water, music, floral scents and textures. Along the way, bioclimatic structures that collect rainwater and rest areas ensure comfort and freshness for users. Inside, the lobby becomes a luminous biophilic atrium, enlivened by vegetation, wood and the sound of water. Vertical circulation is refocused, visible, open to all and in direct continuity with the exterior. The new reception desk, colorful, variable-height and playful, embodies a universal, sensory and non-hierarchical welcome to finally access the subscribers' point.
The project is fully in line with the vision of invisible accessibility, where the built environment becomes a vector of equity, health and shared well-being.
(From competitor's text)
The proposal exudes a lively, active quality, with large ramps at the entrance and landings transformed into small activity spaces. Inside, the elevator is unique and a single staircase is proposed, while the reception area remains almost unchanged. The jury notes the presence of many interesting ideas, but some seem excessive. The intended use of the sports center is not fully addressed, given the high volume of user traffic.
