Media project
The concept is based on the exploitation of the façade overlooking Lasalle Boulevard as a media and kinetic element either through a large screen hiding the volume of the stage house or through colored elements giving rhythm to this elevation.
The party proposes a lateral glazed hall and crossing linking the city to the river, it groups all the public functions on the same level.

The accent of the ceramic envelope is concentrated on the city side façade, creating a very strong appeal. This conceptual avenue relies on sophisticated and maintenance-intensive projection installations. Inside, the multi-functional aspect is exploited to the point of allowing the performance hall to open with the circus school. The wall between Studio A and B is removable. The showroom is windowed with removable panels.

Budgetary aspect: the team proposes a series of potential cuts that should be validated following a value analysis exercise. The concept involves maintaining the proposed envelope.

The jury evaluates the projects by criteria.

STRENGTH OF IDENTITY/
The strength of identity is given by the media approach of the concept thanks to the screen camouflaging the stage cage; it is very strong on the city side and absent on the river side. The result is an ensemble that lacks unity and coherence. The rear projection screen produces an interesting and visible appeal from Lasalle Boulevard; it makes it a signal building, whose durability is however questionable, in terms of sustainability and operation. The fixed and semi-fixed colored elements contribute to create a kinetic sequence but of unequal strength. The colors used are not representative of today's circus, but of a childish vision of the circus. In conclusion, this joyful and playful project proposes a strong identity force, more nocturnal than diurnal and questionable in a park environment; presence of trees, residents' reactions. This approach seems more suited to a special event than a permanent identity.

CRITERION 1/Atmosphere
The hall, interesting because of the creation of an axis crossing the city/river, proposes a duality of perception because of the position of the exhibition and mediation rooms between it and the park. The desired effect of transparency and luminosity will be greatly affected by the closing of the exhibition room, as requested in the Program.

CRITERION 2/The quality of the building's relationship with its site along the river and the city in a spirit of transparency
The gesture to create transverse openings, linking the city to the river, seems unrealistic and is not clearly transposed in the plan, other than in the hall. The building blocks the connection to the river. Explanations of how to meet program requirements make transparency dependent on activities.

CRITERION 3/Functionality and innovation of the ensemble
The party proposes a very functional but dull organization in the lobby, once the exhibition and mediation rooms are closed. The proposal to open up the two (2) studios was not retained for acoustic reasons; the proposal to open up Studio B to the outside was questioned.

CRITERION 4/Integration of volumetry and materiality
The volumetric concept is based only on the façade on the city and does not present an integrated volumetric ensemble. Only the screen and the marquee contribute to energize the austerity of the facades and to camouflage rather than integrate the stage.

CRITERION 5/Technical feasibility and potential to meet budget
Dan Hanganu's project proposes the most surface area; in addition, the cost and maintenance of the projection systems.
