MULTIPURPOSE CULTURAL CENTER IN BEACONSFIELD

The Beaconsfield Multifunctional Cultural Centre project is a catalyst for consolidating Centennial Park and the marina site into a "river landscape park", and for strengthening the civic and cultural heart of the city of Beaconsfield. The morphology of the site on a territorial scale, "landscape waves", and the history of the community imbued on the site, "landscape lots", weave a web where nature, landscape, history and community come together. Their particular characteristics, superimposed and highlighted, lead to new layouts and scenarios of use in the park, and help anchor the new cultural center in the landscape, the park and the community. The new building is at one with the landscape, yet easily accessible to all. It infiltrates the trees of the wooded canopy. By avoiding the trees in order to preserve them, it creates a multi-branch configuration that forms semi-open courtyards between them, bringing the park into the heart of the building. The eastern branch, outside the wooded area, signals the Centre from Beaconsfield Boulevard, thanks to the visual breakthrough towards the water, which is preserved and reinforced in the form of a forecourt and esplanade. Extending interior spaces outwards, the courtyards are welcoming and accessible to all park users. A large roof with variable depth overhangs welcomes citizens, protects interior spaces from the sun's rays, and creates a courtyard for the bistro terrace. The Cultural Center is convivial. Organized on a single level, it encourages encounters between members of the community, and its scale is appropriate to the surrounding context. The heart of the building, bathed in natural light, is the place where the various programmatic zones converge. Its open, multi-purpose space is ideal for community activities.
