The Carabins Stadium - enhancing the experience of attending a game
Giving the choice in site accessibility and usage
This proposal is based on two main principles. First, providing choice in both accessibility and site usage. The idea is to allow all users to access the field through three access routes, each adapted for universal access. This gives everyone the choice to enter via public gathering spaces, through the interior of the CEPSUM, or by the entrance already designated for individuals with reduced mobility. This diversity of access continues inside the venue, allowing all spectators to choose between covered bleachers and the open seating section across from them. By giving all users the freedom to choose, any stigma related to disability or personal circumstances is reduced, enabling everyone to enjoy the experience just like any other fan. Second, we emphasize shifting traditional access routes to the background. To promote universal accessibility while minimizing exclusion for those who require adapted routes (ramps, elevators, etc.), we propose placing universally accessible paths at the heart of the public landscape. In contrast, standard access (such as stairs) will be positioned toward the periphery. This approach ensures the entire public space is accessible to all and fosters a sense of ownership over the space, transforming it into a gathering and pre-game activity zone. DeafSpace principles will also be applied to support circulation, with features like tactile floor guidance lines and stair nosing for improved visibility and safety.
In this way, everyone attending can freely choose their routes and spaces, unlike the limitations of the current setup.
