HEART OF THE STADIUM
Nestled within Mount Royal itself, the CEPSUM benefits from a remarkable natural setting, unique to Montréal. However, the current outdoor arrangements do not provide an inclusive experience for all users in this exceptional environment, as access routes are fragmented based on users' functional limitations. Furthermore, neither the stands nor the boxes of the winter stadium are universally accessible.
This proposal offers an immersive and educational experience, inspired by a walk-through Mount Royal. A wide landscaped ramp follows the site's topography to connect the public space to the stadium. This pathway becomes an inclusive and educational journey, punctuated by native Mount Royal plants, visible filtering basins, gathering areas, and educational panels about the local fauna and flora. At the top, a wooden observation tower acts as both a visual and symbolic landmark, contrasting with the stadium's concrete. The new tower includes a universally accessible vertical circulation core, providing access to the upper north stands and the boxes. It also hosts various services, including a food counter, a Carabins-branded shop, and accessible restrooms. At night, the tower lights up like a lantern, reinforcing its role as a beacon of inclusion and gathering.
The project embraces a sustainable design approach, focusing on local materials and the reuse of existing resources. The concrete from the current gardens is repurposed for the gabion walls of the vegetated and watershed basins. The tower, made of wood, is built upon the existing structure of the specialized clinic pavilion, which is repurposed to house the tower's services, thus reducing the environmental footprint of the intervention.
The promenade becomes a shared, inclusive, and ecological path that addresses the challenges of the site while anchoring the CEPSUM sustainably in its territory and strengthening the connection between sport, nature, community, and equity.

The jury considered that the proposal proposes an interesting idea for observing the match from a terrace or walkway. The tower is well connected to the stands, but only a ramp provides access. Access to the boxes is improved and the vertical distance reduced. The architectural appearance could be improved with more windows.
