Pro Bono Publico
The premise of this design is that in return for the extraordinary features of this site the developers will give to the city and its visitors a special attractive place, the promontory, which would offer such an elevated view of the city skyline: a public place, easily accessible without the use of elevators or doors.
Located at the end point of a pleasant walk from the heart of the city, down the cliff, through the lower town into the new quartier south of the Basin, across the public market, where one can buy some cherries for refreshment, along the Abraham Martin promenade, or through a succession of urban courts toward the spectacular escalier de quatre cent cinquante which finally leads to an observation terrace high above the water.
A restaurant and concession pavilions await the visitor, who on his return journey may use the small foot bridge across the basin. The pedestrian route serves also as a gateway to the city for users of the gare intermodale. Thus the buildings around the basin are perceived as more than a isolated residential quarter, but as an extension of the core of the city.
