This ideas competition is an initiative of the Faculté de l'aménagement of the Université de Montréal, designed to stimulate ideation and mobilize the creativity of young designers on the important theme of universal design.
The competition is multidisciplinary and internationally open to all university students, particularly in the fields of design, architecture and landscape architecture.
This competition is not a project competition: it is an ideas competition.
Projects submitted should not propose simple technical adjustments to the building or its site, but rather transformative ideas that offer inclusive and equitable experiences for all users.

Prior to the jury meeting, the jury members individually analyzed all the anonymous submissions and forwarded to the professional advisors the numbers of the 5 to 10 proposals deemed most relevant in terms of the five evaluation criteria set out in the competition rules, for each of the three competition experiences.
Jury members deliberate to select the best proposals for each experience, based on the evaluation criteria, and to designate the three winners for each experience. They may also award special mentions at their discretion.

The five (5) evaluation criteria in the Competition Rules are outlined by the professional advisors. These evaluation criteria relate to the issues and challenges specific to the project.
- Innovation: Innovative proposal and ability to go beyond the usual accessibility standards and technical solutions.
- Design principles: Clarity, relevance and consistency of proposed design principles to promote experiential quality.
- Equity: Indistinguishable design experiences for all users, with added value for everyone.
- Invisible accessibility: Quality of experience for all, with seamless, non-stigmatizing integration of universal accessibility into the built environment.
- Presentation and coherence: Clarity, coherence and evocative power of the proposal in terms of form and content
