Description

In the shared street, the boundary between modes of transport becomes diffused. Pedestrians, normally confined to the sidewalk, are invited to circulate in the street. Boundaries become permeable. The street becomes a public square. The project seeks to encourage this permeability, both that which allows citizens to move fluidly through the public space, and that which allows plants to spring up from the ground and water to percolate naturally.

The current layout of Place Simon-Valois induces a natural movement towards the streets that border it. We have chosen to continue this movement and let the Place flow into the new meeting zone, which is covered by the same three-tone pavers.
